Welcome

We are a group of Councils who, collectively, cover most of the region known as Eyre Peninsula in the western part of South Australia.
Despite our sparse population, we take immense pride in our region and its achievements and look forward with a great deal of confidence to our future.
Our economic history strongly links us to primary production with mining being the driving force for our major city, Whyalla. The rest of our community has been predominantly a grain growing area with fishing and aquaculture emerging as a key activity over the last 20 years. The city of Port Lincoln, in the south, has been strongly identified with the tuna industry and with aquaculture innovation in recent years. In addition, our service industries continue to grow and expand.
Despite the devastation of wildfire in January 2005 that brought much destruction to our Southern Members, and drought that has severely impacted on sections of our farming community over the last 5 years, we continue to grow as a region. Mining growth, in particular, is forecast to be very strong over the next 5 years.
We invite you to enjoy our website and we warmly welcome you to our region.
